Launcells Barton Wedding - Kelly and Farrell

Now I am fully aboard the blog train and just about recovered from the fog of Christmas and New Year, it’s about time I featured one of my favourite weddings of all time at one my favourite venues! Launcells Barton is an exclusive use wedding venue just outside Bude in North Cornwall. Centred around a Grade 2 listed Manor House, surrounded by stunning countryside, it really is a beautiful setting to get married at. It has options for outdoor ceremonies in the walled garden, or indoors in the renovated barn - more about both shortly! For those with ADHD like myself - scroll down form the photos! :)

I first met Kelly and Farrell in June 2021 at Widemouth Beach for their engagement shoot, Bude after they booked me to capture their wedding. They combined it with their family holiday, so Millie and little Rae joined us for a family shoot on the beach. I always recommend an engagement shoot and include them as part of all my full day bookings, it just helps get rid of any nerves about the camera and we get to have a laugh and get to know each other!

Onto the big day a year later and what a day it was! Kelly and her bridal squad were all getting ready in the master bedroom at the back of the house, whilst Farrell and the guys arrived to get ready downstairs, after a morning on the beach. The weather started off great, but with an uncertain forecast. The plan had been to have an outdoor ceremony, and the setting looked great in the garden (see photo below!). But Mother Nature had other idea’s, as she often does! Wedding co-ordinator Maddie, had to make the final call and quickly (15 min or so before the ceremony) got the flowers into the barn, it was going to be an indoor ceremony. And that was definitely the right decision. About 10 minutes into it, the heavens opened and unleashed an rainy deluge akin to a tropical monsoon - it was bouncing! But none of the fazed Kelly or Faz and the barn was just as beautiful. Fortunately, it had already dried out for confetti shots outside and some group shots before another shower arrived. But we worked around it and it didn’t dampen anyones fun.

Launcells Barton is fairly unique in that it offers couples a tractor ride up to some fields above the venue for some couples portraits in the evening, normally coinciding with sunset. However due to the amount of rain we had on the day, it wasn’t possible to do it. So knowing this, after the brilliant speeches, in the after dinner lull, I disappeared off for a quick scout for somewhere to get some nice sunset portraits, without getting Kelly and her dress soaked or caked in mud! They say time in reconnaissance is seldom wasted, and this proved true! We went for a wander and were treated to some beautifully soft evening light. I was so chuffed for them that the rain abated at just the right time. It also meant the guests got to enjoy some lawn games and we ended the night with a sparkler tunnel.

So there it is, a brief summary of what was a fantastic wedding with a beautiful young family. I was so happy to be a part of their day and to have captured some fantastic memories for them, images that Millie and Rae will be able to look back on, possibly with their own children one day!

If you are looking for a Wedding Venue in Cornwall I can whole heartedly recommend getting in touch with the team at Launcells Barton. There were some awesome suppliers involved in the day as well and I can recommend each and every one of them.
